New information available on the KIDS COUNT Data Center

Economic Security
On August 26, 2008, the U.S. Census Bureau released the latest data from their 2007 American Community Survey. From this information a number of economic indicators have been updated for the 50 states, Puerto Rico and the 55 largest U.S. cities including:

  • Children in poverty
  • Total population in poverty
  • Children below 200% of poverty
  • Children under age 6 in poverty
  • Families with children in poverty

Health
Using data from the latest Current Population Survey, the following indicators of health insurance coverage have been updated for the 50 states and DC:
Children without health insurance, by age
Children without health insurance, by poverty level

The latest National Survey on Drug Use and Health data are now part of the Data Center profiles for states, including:

  • Binge alcohol drinking among youth
  • Cigarette use in the past month
  • Illicit drug use
